BEEVILLE, Texas — After weather forced Saturday's scheduled games to be postponed, Lamar State College Port Arthur made the most of Monday's rescheduled doubleheader, delivering a strong all‑around performance to earn a convincing sweep over Coastal Bend College. Originally slated for April 11, the twin bill was played Monday, April 13, and showcased LSCPA's timely hitting, plate discipline, and efficient pitching.
Game 1: LSCPA Sets the Tone Early
LSCPA struck quickly in the opening game, scoring four runs in the first inning to take early control. Two runs crossed the plate on defensive miscues, while Mallory Cheek drove in a run with a double and Jalise Martinez added an RBI with a sacrifice fly.
The offensive pressure continued in the third inning when Martinez lined a single down the left‑field line to push the lead to five.
In the circle, Aubre Fuller delivered a complete‑game performance, allowing just two hits and one run over seven innings. Fuller did not issue a walk and kept hitters off balance throughout the contest as LSCPA secured a 7–1 victory.
Martinez led the offense with three RBIs, while Cheek, Alyssa Lewis, and Marissa Montoya each recorded hits. Lewis showcased patience at the plate with two walks and added pressure on the bases with two stolen bases, part of three total steals by LSCPA in the opener.
Game 2: Lewis' Grand Slam Breaks It Open
LSCPA carried its momentum into the second game, jumping out to a first‑inning lead when Abigail Rutherford delivered a two‑run single and another run scored on an error.
The lead grew in the third as Cheek doubled to center field and Martinez followed with an RBI single to extend LSCPA's advantage.
The defining moment came in the fifth inning when Alyssa Lewis launched a grand slam to left field, putting the game out of reach and capping a four‑RBI performance. Lewis finished the day with two hits and four runs batted in.
Kendall Hurt earned the win in the circle, surrendering three runs over five innings while limiting damage after a brief fourth‑inning surge by Coast Bend.
Rutherford, Lewis, and Cheek each posted multi‑hit games, while Abigail Moreno reached base twice via walk as LSCPA again demonstrated plate discipline with six walks. The team was aggressive on the bases, stealing five bags, and turned in a flawless defensive effort without committing an error.
